Please provide biblical evidence of how baptism brings one in contact with Jesus'
blood.
A: The following scriptures show the
connection between Jesus' blood and salvation (the removal of sin). Hebrews
9:14-28, 1Peter 1:18-19, Romans
3:24-25, Ephesians 1:3-7, Colossians 1:13-14
& 20.
In Romans 6:3-7,
we can see the connection between "baptism" and "Jesus'
blood", which saves.
- When we are baptized to have our sins washed
away, we experience a "likeness" of Jesus' death (Romans
6:3-5).
-
Since Jesus' death was by crucifixion, and one is experiencing a
"like" death when he or she is baptized, the one being baptized is also undergoing a
crucifixion (Romans 6:6).
- This crucifixion is carried out upon the old man of sin (Romans
6:6).
-
Since Jesus' blood was shed through His death by crucifixion, the contact that
the sinner makes with Jesus' blood is through the prescribed method of reaching His death on
the cross (Colossians 1:20). There is only one biblically recorded way of
meeting the Lord's death with our own. It is accomplished through the faithful act of
baptism into Christ (Galatians
3:26-27).
- Notice that verse 6 of Romans 6 states that
baptism is so "that the body of sin might
be destroyed". This discounts the contention, made by
some, that sins are removed before being baptized into Jesus death.
Romans 6:4, leaves no doubt. "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:"
