If I ask Jesus to come into my heart and save me from my sins, isn't this "calling on the name of the Lord"?

A:  This is a popular teaching of how one should "call" on the name of the Lord. Are these instructions, however, (to pray to the Lord, for the purpose of "entering into the saved relationship with Christ") found in the scriptures?

Examining the following scriptures, and answering a few questions, may clear up the matter for you.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:13-14

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16

After examining these passages of scripture above, please answer these questions.

The instruction to "pray" (asking Jesus to come into our heart and save) as the way to "call upon the name of the Lord", does not fit the salvation equation like baptism does.

Please examine the scriptures below and answer the following questions.

And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,  Acts 9:11

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16
